There’s No Business like Show Business!

A long day of shooting segments for a new TV pilot ended with a pat on the back. And, here’s how…

Fully made up for the cameras and still wearing that cute little black skirt, I rushed over to Angels Trace to check on things. Angels Trace is my foundation in Orlando which provides support to single moms who are struggling to take care of their children. I was truly focused on getting in the office, taking care of business, and getting back home to my 3 teenage boys…nothing else.

Angels Trace is housed in an office building with several other businesses. I opened the big glass door and proceeded to walk down a long hallway in the building. A 20+ year old, handsome gentleman was walking towards me. We exchanged glances. I smiled and said “Hi!” After all, it is the customary thing to do in the South; remember we’re known for our Southern hospitality. The young stranger reciprocated with a “Hey!” I kept walking and could feel him staring at me from behind. No, actually he was staring at my behind. I took a Marilyn Monroe look over my shoulder and glamorously grinned. And then, under his breath he started singing the lyrics of an old gospel song, “Let everyone sing…AMEN,AMEN, AMEN, A-MEN, A-MEN, A-MEN, A-MEN!”

I rushed in the elevator, and when the doors had closed, I burst out laughing and thought even at 40-somenthing, I still got it! That young man made my day.

Oh, no numbers were exchanged. Although, I must admit, I was very flattered because the man looked young enough to be my son. It certainly made for lots of laughs and playful comments from my girlfriends the next night at dinner. I’m sure you can imagine what they had to say. I simply commented that “It’s so fun to be on TV…who knows what can happen.” Yes, the 1954 film starring Marilyn Monroe said it best: There’s no business like show business!

Now, don’t you want to be on television too?
