Media Scare Tactics Prove To Be A Multi Million Dollar Business

Published by TVImageCoach at 11:24 am under Media and Publicity

New Yorker Obama Cover

The New Yorker Magazine has stolen the thunder from Brad and Angelina’s $11,000,000 twin babies that’s for sure. The New Yorker cartoon cover picturing presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama dressed as a Muslim, while his wife Michelle is portrayed as a terrorist with a portrait of Osama Bin Laden in the background, hanging over a fireplace along with a burning American flag is making headline news.

While The New Yorker Magazine defends its position as simply being a satirical look at the scare tactics and misinformation being used to derail Obama’s campaign, I say this is no more than big business. The New Yorker Magazine like any business in a capitalist society, is out to make money, and it is trying to do that at the expense of this very popular couple. For many people, this is truly obnoxious, but for some, they think it’s funny. Like it or not, the magazine really just wants to boost its circulation and sales in a sluggish economy.

Regardless of who you are voting for this November, be it Barack Obama or Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, there is a lesson to be learned, and I would like to pass it along to you. These are politicians. They are fair game to any news reporter, publication, or blogger. But how they, or you and I react to controversial matters in the media is far more important.

Obama’s campaign responded to the cover being “tasteless and offensive.” When reporters asked Senator Obama what he thought about the cover, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I have no response to that.” There is your lesson!

When you’re asked to respond to something that you do not feel comfortable talking about or if something has been written or said about you either on TV, on the radio, in a magazine, or by a blogger, and you don’t care for it, or you don’t even know about it, all you have to do is not respond. It’s okay to simply say “No comment. ” Instead of fueling the fire, quench it.
